The first one we ordered was a plastic one by Step2 but we sent it back (poor workmanship, openings too small for pots, pans, etc.) The KidKraft kitchen is fabulous!! It is sturdy, attractive (wood & metal) and my son really loves it. The microwave, oven, cabinets & freezer spaces are large and he enjoys opening/closing and storing things in them. I also like that the oven door opens to the side (not down) so there is no climbing on top of it. The faucets knobs are a hit as well as the oven control knobs (they click). The only potential thing that the plastic ones have over this model is buttons you can press & sounds. Also, you will need to purchase pots/pans & food separately. I and my 18 mo old are very satisfied with this item.
