I passed it over at first because I thought the skin tone was too light, and instead bought the AFrican nighty night doll (which I don't recommend, it's weird-looking and the hair is just straight black yarn, not african hair at all). Anyway, this doll came today and it's just beautiful, the dress comes on and off very easily, so my 3 year old can do it on her own, and underneath the dress she's wearing a yellow t-shirt and striped leggings, which are cool and a little more stylish than the dress. Her hair is made of chenille and seems a little more like dreadlocks (and I don't know many young (doll-playing aged) AA girls who wear those), but it's overall a wonderful doll, and I am, finally, super pleased.
Regarding the skin tone, it IS light, but it's darker than it appeared in the amazon photos.
Regarding durability, I would recommend just spot washing this doll by hand.
