The globe mysteriously appears to spin around on its stand like a self-sustaining perpetual motion machine. The speed and look of the motion is pretty cool, too, reminding me a bit of how the "real" world revolves--smooth and steady.
I have this on my desk at work, and people who visit often ask about it, so it's a good little conversation starter. It's also useful for just staring at while pondering something. It's kind of calming in a way.
Both the globe and stand are solid and seemingly well built, living up to their pricey nature.
The verdict: worth it if you can afford it and if you like "nifty cool" toys/gadgets.
