(More customer reviews)This is your basic pull-string pinata. I guess you could have the kids smash it, if you want. I like using the pull-strings, where the kids get underneath and pull one of the strings. Only one string will open the trap door. Some parents have all the kids stand underneath, grab a string and pull all at once.
The pinata holds about 3 pounds of candy. Actually, there's room for lots more, but the recommendation is 3 pounds, which is plenty, or else the trap door may not hold. We put 3 pounds in this pinata for my son's party and it was fine. For us, the trap door was pulled open and some candy fell out, but some of it got stuck and we had to shake or pull the rest of the candy out.
The Pikachu is printed on paper and pasted on the pinata. It's not as vibrant as shown on this page, but the kids don't mind.
You may try keeping this pinata for future parties. Just tape the trap door shut, glue some ribbons on the bottom and paste a picture of the next character theme on the front (or use a flat, round helium balloon).
I like this pinata for it's reusability factor and because I don't need to worry about anyone getting hit by a stick. From my son's point of view, a Pikachu shaped pinata would have been preferable, but he wasn't aware of that option, so he was happy.
